Thrivent FinancialThrivent Financial for Lutherans is a Fortune 500 faith-based, not-for-profit financial services membership organization serving clients throughout the United States.

Thrivent originally came to us to rebrand existing CBT courses due to a merger and company name change.

Upon completing the rebranding project we first helped them migrate all courses from CD-based to DVD-based, then to a custom developed Web-based LMS. The LMS automatically registers employees based on location, job and organization.

Email notifications are automatically sent to registered individuals and management is notified when courses are not completed within required timeframes.

Challenges

  • Develop and host an LMS with a “single sign-on” capability (users are not aware they are being routed to an external server).
  • Migrate existing course completion data into the new system to maintain existing corporate data feeds to downstream corporate systems.
  • Make needed information available to supervisors and managers.
  • Incorporate courses created using such products as Authorware, Flash, Captivate and Articulate.
  • Automatically send email notifications to individuals upon registration. Send followup emails with copy to managers as completion date approaches and passes.

Solution

Creative Approaches built a learning management system (LMS) to hold course, student, and location information. This information is available on a number of different levels depending on who is using the system.

When a student accesses the online eLearning site, they are automatically logged in to the LMS and they are shown a dashboard of their transcript. The transcript presents all the courses they have taken, the grade received, and the date each course was completed. It also shows courses to be completed and date due.

Supervisors have access to student transcripts through reporting functions.

The training department can log in to update student profiles, run reports, and update course registration criteria. They can also add new courses.

Result

  • The LMS is an integral part of Thrivent’s environment, even though it is external.
  • Compliance with corporate policies is assured. Completion of required courses within desired timeframes is assured.
  • Training records from as early as 1999 have been incorporated.
  • The system continues to evolve as technology and operating systems/browsers change.
